Where artistry meets sustainability

I STARTED sewing because hand embroidery was becoming a bit obsessive and I needed to wear my time spent with the needle like a trophy. I knew that I could make clothes than fit, instead of trying to fit into what I bought. After investigating why most clothes sold in the USA are plastic based, poor quality, and sent to landfills on average after 4x worn, I could not stop questioning the environmental and social implications of consumerism, fast fashion, and the truth behind the textile industry- which is not only damaging our planet but also an estimated 170 million children around the world who are removed from school to work in horrific conditions to make the world's clothing. "Textile mills generate one-fifth of the world's industrial water pollution and use 20,000 chemicals, many of them carcinogenic, to make clothes. Chinese textile factories alone produce about three billion tons of soot—air pollution linked to respiratory and heart disease—every year by burning coal for energy" (NRDC.org).
